Melatonin: A Hormone That Protects Against Breast Cancer and Aging

Natural News published an article on the positve effects of Melatonin a hormone that is naturally activated by darkness and deactivated with light. This natural hormone is produced by the pineal gland is can produce up to 2.5 miligrams a day. In addition to helping decrease the chance of breast cancer it can also slow down the aging process.
Recent studies are now showing that as our levels of melatonin sink, our chances for breast cancer rise. Many women with breast cancer have lower levels of melatonin than those without the disease. Laboratory experiments indicate that lower levels of melatonin stimulate growth of breast cancer cells. Adding melatonin to these cells inhibits their growth

Black Cohosh Herb

Natural News published an ariticle on black cohosh a plant in the buttercup family. Black cohosh has been found stop the grownth of cancer cells and has been used to treat kidney problems, sore throat and gynecological problems. The study was funded by Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation revealed,
In the current study, researchers applied extracts of black cohosh to breast cancer cells in a laboratory setting. Growth of cancer cells was inhibited in cell lines that had the extract added, apparently due to an increase in programmed cell death (apoptosis).

Vegan diet

Mary Bukowiece a women with a history a breast cancer was diagnosed with breast cancer. She did everything the doctor told her to do, but sadly only four years later her cancer recurred. When she was diagnosed with breast cancer the second time around she decided she would do here own research and decided on a alternative method. She found that everything she read was recommening a plant based diet. Her oncologist was not very pleased with her decision but Bukowiece decided it was her life and she was going to do what she thought was her best option. Burkowiece shares her results
"A (medical) report of my scan showed that the cancer was still there, but that it had diminished."

She said her oncologist was not pleased with her refusing the conventional cancer treatments, but nine months later her cancer was gone.

"The oncologist threw my file down and said, ''you're perfect''" Bukowiec said. "I thought, 'Wow, how can you be so glib?'

Marijuana an alternative cure

A chemical naturally found in marijuana can aid in preventing the metastis of breast cancer. Researchers have identified a gene known as Id-1 in patients with metastic cancer, which is the same gene found in developing embryos. Once a person reaches adulthood this gene typically shuts down. CBD cannabidiol interupts the activiy of this gene. This alternative and natural guard against cancer is great news for women with breast cancer.
"Right now we have a limited range of options in treating aggressive forms of cancer," co-author Sean D. McAllister said. "Those treatments, such as chemotherapy, can be effective but they can also be extremely toxic and difficult for patients. This compound offers the hope of a non-toxic therapy that could achieve the same results without any of the painful side effects."

Cancer and your thoughts

For many years women diagnosed with breast cancer have been told to stay positive to defeat their cancer. What if they were told that staying positive would not make a difference in their chance of fighting breast cancer. This research was conducted at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Melbourne. Research revealed that attitude on the illness had no impact on the chance of cancer going away or recurring.
Surprisingly for some this news was good, due to the fact that many cancer victims blame theme selves if the cancer returns. Associate Professor Kelly-Anne Phillips responds
I think it’s certainly good news for those women that I see whose cancer has unfortunately returned and who come to me and are really blaming themselves for not having thought positively enough or having been depressed or anxious after their cancer diagnosis.

Although research proves it would not make a difference. I personally believe that the mind is powerful tool and our thoughts control our state of mind, therefore can defiantly aide in our healing.

New drug discovered

The press associated published a story on a new potential drug that can fight breast cancer. Women who participated in the study were in an advanced stage of cancer, and the results were remarkable. According to Dr David Miles new study
Almost a quarter of the 66 patients saw their tumours disappear or shrink. In 8% of cases, the cancer effectively vanished

This new drug is called pertuzumab. Although the patients that participated in this study were already in a advanced stage of breast cancer, Dr. MIles believes using this drug in addition to chemotherapy could be a more effective alternative in treating breast cancer.

Taking aspirin daily reduces breast cancer

Science Daily published a study done by the US research team who conducted a study on 127,000 womens and found that aspirin can reduce the risk of breast cancer in women with estrogen receptor positive cancer (ERP+). The study showed that Aspirin reduced the risk of cancer by 16%.
It is feasible, in theory, that aspirin and other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) could lower the total risk of breast cancer. They block an enzyme called cyclooxygenase, an activity that could disrupt breast cancer development in a number of ways -- for example, by reducing the amount of estrogen produced in the body.

Overall the results were not astonishing, but it appeared that aspirin offered some protection for estrogen eeceptor positive breast cancer.
